The American Actors Guild (SAG) has named Dame Helen Mirren as the recipient of its 57e tribute award to highlight his entire career, the organization announced Thursday.
The British actress, who has stood out both on stage and on the big screen, is 76 years old. Her career spans half a century and has seen her take on a variety of roles, ranging from gangster companion to The Long Good Friday until Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen.
This new honor adds to a well-stocked list in Dame Mirren’s charts which already includes an Oscar, a Tony and numerous awards won at the SAG, Emmy and BAFTA galas.
“I am honored to have been chosen,” commented the winner in a press release.
“Since the time when I was a young actress at the beginning of my career, I have always been inspired by and I have learned a lot from American actors, so this award is particularly dear to me”, she continued. .
With 13 Guild Awards, Helen Mirren is the most successful actress to win the tribute award, the Actors Union said.
“Dame Helen Mirren has a talent that is just brilliant and bright,” said Guild President Fran Drescher.
