American football: Antony Auclair will extend his stay with the Houston Texans

Quebec tight end Antony Auclair will extend his career with the Houston Texans, his agent Sasha Ghavami announced on Monday.

The terms of the deal have not been officially released, but a source said it is for a one-year deal. The person spoke on condition of anonymity as Houston did not announce the deal.

Last season, his first with the Texans, the 28-year-old Notre-Dame-des-Pins player caught five passes for 47 yards and a touchdown — his first of his NFL career. He did it in a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots on October 10.

A 1.98 m (6′ 6”) and 116 kg (256 lbs) athlete, Auclair often contributes as a blocker. He joined the Texans in April 2021, after spending four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The former Laval University Rouge et Or player had also taken advantage of the arrival of star quarterback Tom Brady with the Bucs in 2020 to become the second Quebecer in as many seasons – after Laurent Duvernay-Tardif with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 — to win the Super Bowl.

In 56 NFL games, Auclair had 131 yards on 15 catches.

The Texans went 4-13 last season and 4-12 in 2020.
