American crooner Bobby Caldwell, best known for his hit ‘What You Won’t Do for Love’, dies at 71

Born in New York in 1951, the American singer died on Wednesday March 15 following a long illness. He rose to prominence in 1978 with the release of his first solo album, including his very famous hit: “What You Won’t Do for Love”.

Bobby Calwell died on Wednesday March 15 following a long illness. Sad news announced by his wife Mary via the singer’s Twitter account: “Bobby died at home. I hugged him tightly as he left us. My heart is forever broken. Thank you all for your many prayers over the years. Rest in peace, my love.”

The American artist, admirer of Frank Sinatra, was known in particular for his song What You Won’t Do for Love released in 1978 in a self-titled debut solo album. Over the years, Bobby Caldwell has released several albums: Cat in the Hat in 1980, carry-on in 1982 and Heart of Mine in 1989. He wrote some songs for other artists like Chicago, Boz Scaggs or Neil Diamond.

The famous, world-famous crooner was a phenomenon in Japan. In 1983, he published an album august moon exclusively for the Land of the Rising Sun, before a release in the United States in the 1990s. artists who have revisited his work: Go West, Phyllis Hyman and Boyz II Men, John Legend and even rapper Tupac Shakur.
