American comedian James Caan, known for his roles in ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Misery’, has died aged 82

American comedian James Caan, best known for his role in The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, died at the age of 82, his family announced on the official Twitter account of the actor, Thursday July 7.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of Jimmy’s passing on the evening of July 6th,” those close to James Caan said on Twitter. “The family appreciates the outpouring of love and sincere condolences, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

Born in the Bronx district of New York in 1940, James Caan played Sonny Corleone in 1972 in Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary film about the Italian-American mafia, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. For one of his other great roles, in Miseryadapted from Stephen King’s book, he played a writer kidnapped by an evil woman played by Kathy Bates.

The actor was nominated for an Oscar for the role of Sonny Corleone in The Godfather. James Caan had also had roles in the films The solitary and roller ball.
