American astronaut Jessica Watkins becomes the first black woman to join the International Space Station

A first reminiscent of the uchronic series For All Mankind. American astronaut Jessica Watkins will become, Thursday, April 28, the first black woman to join the International Space Station. Aged 33, she is also the cfifth black woman to go into space. “Becoming a NASA astronaut, I had dreamed of it for a very long time, since I was very young, but I never thought I would get there one day”, said in press conference the one who started in the American space agency as an intern.

“I think this mission is truly a tribute to the legacy of the black female astronauts who came before me, as well as to the exciting future that lies ahead of us.”

The mission dubbed “Crew-4” took off Wednesday from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, with Americans Kjell Lindgren, Bob Hines and Jessica Watkins on board, as well as Italian Samantha Cristoforetti from the European Space Agency. They will join another crew that sees its return to Earth approaching after a five-month mission, and whose return date will soon be known. Three Russians are also present on board the ISS.
