His curiosity landed him in prison in North Korea. “An American citizen crossed the demarcation line without authorization” in the demilitarized zone which separates the dictatorship from South Korea, the UN announced on Tuesday 18 July. The United Nations, which controls this area “common security”, specify that this man is a soldier of the American armed forces. This soldier is presumed to have been detained since then by Pyongyang.
“We are working with our counterparts in the North Korean military to solve this incident”, says the UN command post on the spot. This American citizen took part in one of the many visits organized daily in this demilitarized zone, separating the two countries for nearly 70 years. Since the Korean War did not result in a peace agreement, the two countries are still, technically, in a state of war.
