Since the release of the series Velma on HBO Max, American actress Mindy Kaling faces criticism for her acting and writing style. She is criticized for a certain artistic laziness surrounding her many roles and series that she has written, many going so far as to question her career.

Whether Mindy Lahiri in the series The Mindy Project, Devi Vishwakumar in Never Have I Ever or Bela Malhotra in The Sex Lives of College Girlsall have virtually the same profile: a naïve, self-absorbed, insecure young Indian woman obsessed with romantic validation from white men and willing to do anything to get it.
Most recently, it was her portrayal of a South Asian version of popular Scooby-Doo family character Velma that caused a stir, reports BuzzFeed News.
On social media, it is criticized that Velma is another character modeled on the roles that Kaling writes, that of a woman of Indian origin with dry humor, who has a poor perception of herself, who stands out of his cultural origins and who has a crush on a white man.
A user would have possibly found the reason why the interpreter of Kelly Kapoor in the popular series The Office would have “an obsession” with a “certain type of white man”.
“You have to remember [qu’elle] spent his sexual discovery years at Dartmouth College over 20 years ago. That’s all there was [des gars blancs]. New England changes people,” she tweeted. His tweet has since racked up more than nine million views.
According to various comments, the writing style of the 43-year-old actress is detrimental to young girls, in addition to being part of an outdated class of humor. Others claim that she was brainwashed by her upbringing at a private east coast college, that she is Islamophobic, and that she is a TERF (feminist who excludes trans women).
In 2012, Mindy Kaling became the first South Asian woman to star in an American series, with her portrayal of Mindy Lahiri in The Mindy Project.
It was also during this time that eyebrows were raised because of the panoply of racist jokes, his mania for date white men and his way of presenting racialized people.
