American actress Gena Rowlands, known in particular for her role in the film A woman under the influence for which she won an Oscar in 1975, died on Wednesday August 14 at the age of 94, her son’s entourage announced to New York Timesconfirming information from the media TMZ. His son, Nick Cassavetes, had declared in June to New York Times that she had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for five years.
The American star has worked extensively with her husband, director John Cassavetes: in addition toA woman under the influenceshe notably played in Opening Night And Gloria, for which she received an Oscar in 1981. She also starred in films by Jim Jarmusch (Night on Earth) or Woody Allen (Another woman) but also in those made by his son, including Never forgetin 2004. She received an honorary Oscar in 2015.
