American actor Jonathan Majors, guilty of assault, avoids prison

American actor Jonathan Majors was sentenced to probation but avoided prison on Monday for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a high-profile case that derailed his once-promising career.

The star of Creed III and the villain ofAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania faced up to a year in prison after being found guilty of misdemeanor assault by a Manhattan jury last December.

Judge Michael Gaffey also ordered Majors, 34, to complete, in person, a 52-week abuser’s program. He also needs to continue mental health therapy.

After the guilty verdict in December, Majors was immediately dropped by the powerful Marvel studio, which had previously cast him as Kang the Conqueror, a role that was intended to be the main “supervillain” of the films and television shows of entertainment empire for years to come.

The conviction stems from a March 2023 altercation in which Grace Jabbari, Majors’ then-girlfriend, accused him of assaulting her in the backseat of a chauffeur-driven car. The woman claimed the actor hit her in the head with his open hand, twisted her arm behind her back and squeezed her middle finger until it fractured.

Majors claimed that it was the 31-year-old British dancer who attacked him, during a violent scene of jealousy after reading a text from another woman on his phone.

He maintained that he was only trying to get his phone back and get safely away from Jabbari.
