Amcor-CSN union calls strike

In negotiations since June 2023, the Amcor-CSN Workers’ Union called a strike on Sunday.

In December, it was given a 12-hour strike mandate to be exercised at the appropriate time.

The Amcor-CSN Workers’ Union brings together 97 members and is affiliated with the Federation of Manufacturing Industry-CSN, whose approximately 320 affiliated unions represent approximately 25,000 members working in Quebec’s industrial sector.

“We will support the members of the union until they obtain employment conditions commensurate with the work accomplished every day,” said Louis Bégin, president of the Federation of Manufacturing Industry-CSN, in a press release. .

He adds that the market for unscrewable caps used on single-use bottles is a specialized area in Quebec. “ [L’employeur] has the means to pay his people well and it is in this spirit that we will continue the negotiations,” he says.

Questioned by The Canadian Press on Sunday, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) mentioned by email that certain checks will have to be made before knowing if the strike will have repercussions on the company.

The president of the union, Stéphanie Boulay, maintains that the question of salaries remained the main point in dispute now. “Several other issues remain unresolved, particularly with regard to our group insurance, our personal leave and the promotion of seniority,” she explains in a press release.

“If it wants to maintain a qualified and competent workforce, Amcor will have to offer its employees working conditions worthy of the name,” says Caroline Senneville, president of the CSN.
