The suspect was arrested and taken into custody while the children and their mother are safe, RCMP said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police had reason to believe that two children were kidnapped by their father on Thursday.

The police said they had reason to believe that the mother of the two children had also been abducted against her will. Shortly before its cancellation, the Amber Alert was extended to Manitoba.
