Amazon warehouse in Laval | Request filed to have a union recognized

(Laval) The CSN has filed a request to have a union recognized in an Amazon warehouse in Laval.

The Administrative Labor Court must now verify whether the formation of a possible union obtains a majority of signatures among the approximately 200 warehouse workers concerned.

During a press briefing on Monday, in front of the Laval warehouse, the president of the CSN, Caroline Senneville, clarified that the central union has been working to form a union there for two years, by signing union cards. membership.

If a union were to actually be accredited there, it would be the first Amazon warehouse where workers would be unionized in Quebec, said the president of the Confédération des syndicats nationaux.

Supporters of the union want to demand better wages and say they are concerned about the issues of work pace and health and safety at work.

Asked for comment, Amazon management said: “It is up to our employees to decide whether or not they want to join a union. It has always been so. We work with our employees to implement ways that allow each person to be respected and valued and to be heard as an individual in their own right. The fact is, Amazon already offers what many unions are demanding: safe and inclusive workplaces, competitive pay, benefits from day one, and opportunities for career advancement. We look forward to working with our employees to continue to make Amazon a great place to work,” said Barbara Agrait, Amazon spokesperson.
