Alsatian pottery obtains its protected geographical indication

The National Institute of Industrial Property has just approved the geographical indication “poteries d’Alsace Soufflenheim – Betschdorf”. The notice is published this Friday, March 11 in the Official Journal. The PGI is a guarantee of authenticity for consumers and a means of promoting the know-how and products of craft businesses. Potters have been asking for it for a long time.

All the stages of production (manufacture and decoration of products) must be carried out on the PGI “poteries d’Alsace” area. It covers 97 municipalities in the north of the Bas-Rhin department. Twelve companies concerned by this certification, i.e. approximately 80 employees who produce 600,000 parts per year.
