This new geographical indication is the 2nd in the Grand Est region and the 2nd in the field of tableware.
The Association des Potiers d’Alsace brings together craftsmen with exceptional know-how: traditional pottery from Alsace, a heritage carried by several generations of potters located in Betchdorf and Soufflenheim.

Guarantors of local heritage, the 7 members of the association defend this craft through the IGPIA label (Geographical Indications Protecting Industrial and Artisanal Products).
To obtain the appellation “Poteries d’Alsace”, the products must necessarily come from two traditional manufacturing techniques. One is associated with the village of Betschdorf (salt stoneware pottery), the second with the village of Soufflenheim (enamelled pottery).
A total of 12 companies are affected by this approval. They represent all of the pottery companies in the geographical area concerned, employ around a hundred employees and produce 600,000 pieces per year.

DIE “TÖPFEREIEN AUS DEM ELSASS SOUFFLENHEIM / BETSCHDORF” ERHALTEN DIE HOMOLOGATION DER GEOGRAFISCHEN ANGABE
Diese neue geografische Angabe ist die zweitgrößte in der Region Grand Est und die zweitgrößte im Bereich der Tischkultur. Die Association des Potiers d’Alsace vereint Handwerker mit außergewöhnlichem Know-how: die traditionelle elsässische Töpferei, ein Erbe, das von mehreren Generationen von Töpfern getragen wird, die in Betchdorf und Soufflenheim ansässig sind.
Um die Bezeichnung “Alsace pottery” (Elsässische Töpferwaren) zu erhalten, müssen die Produkte notwendigerweise aus zwei traditionellen Herstellungstechniken stammen. Die eine wird mit dem Dorf Betschdorf (Töpferwaren aus Salzsandstein), die zweite mit dem Dorf Soufflenheim (glasierte Töpferwaren) in Verbindung gebracht.
