Alpine Skiing World Cup | Serious fall of Valérie Grenier

Two days after her third place in downhill, Valérie Grenier suffered a serious fall in the super-G of the Cortina d’Ampezzo World Cup on Sunday.

The 27-year-old skier seemed to be heading for another podium when she hit a gate head-on in the last sector of the course, at nearly fifty km/h. Thrown into the air, the representative of the Mont-Tremblant club slid several dozen meters along the security fence, groaning. The accident made the leader, the Swiss Lara Gut, grimace and aroused the concern of the physiotherapist Alexandre Gariépy and the technician Nicolo Carpentieri, who accompanied the Canadian in the gate.

Placed on a stretcher, Grenier had to be evacuated by helicopter. The Olimpie delle Tofane track has been merciless since the start of competition on Friday: the American Mickaela Shiffrin, the Swiss Corinne Suter and the Austrian Joana Hählen suffered serious injuries in the queen of the Dolomites.
