Alpine Skiing World Cup | Marie-Michèle Gagnon signs the 7th fastest time in training

(Lake Louise) Quebecer Marie-Michèle Gagnon posted the seventh fastest time in the training downhill ahead of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Lake Louise on Tuesday.

The Lac-Etchemin skier set a time of one minute and 53.13 seconds, as the two runs scheduled for this weekend in Alberta approached.

Italy’s Sofia Goggia led the session with a time of 1: 51.96. She beat in order the Slovenian Ilka Stuhec (1: 52.26) and the Swiss Joana Haehlen (1: 52.54).

For her part, the American Mikaela Shiffrin finished 17e in 1: 53.86.

Canadians Stefanie Fleckenstein, Roni Remme and Candace Crawford followed at 38e, 39e and 57e ranks, respectively.

The skiers will participate in two more training runs, before the first official descent scheduled for Friday. This will be followed by another Saturday and a super-G Sunday – provided Mother Nature cooperates.

Heavy snowfall sabotaged plans for the men’s component of the Lake Louise Alpine Ski World Cup last week. One of the two runs was canceled, as well as the super-G scheduled for Sunday.
