(Kvitfjell) Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami took first place in the general ranking of the Alpine Skiing World Cup on Saturday by winning the Kvitfjell super-G.
The Olympic champion thus increased her lead to 305 points ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin, holder of the crystal globe. Gut-Behrami could increase his cushion on Sunday, during the second super-G.
Shiffrin should be back next week with six races remaining this season. She injured her knee on January 26 during a fall in Italy. She is looking for a sixth title.
Gut-Behrami lost time in the foggy section of the course on Saturday, but accelerated in the second portion. She completed her descent in 1:33.52 before witnessing the performances of Austrians Mirjam Puchner and Cornelia Huetter.
Huetter was 0.12 seconds behind and Puchner took third place on the podium, one hundredth of a second behind her compatriot.
There were no Canadians in action.
Gut-Behrami also leads the super-G standings by 25 points ahead of Huetter, while Sunday’s super-G will be the last of the year. The Swiss could win her fifth title in the discipline.
Gut-Behrami once won the overall crystal globe. It was in 2016.
