Skier Valérie Grenier will need at least two surgeries after falling in the super-G at the Cortina d’Ampezzo World Cup on Sunday.
While attempting to change her trajectory to avoid a door, Grenier lost control and was propelled into the air before being stopped by the safety barriers. She was evacuated from the circuit by toboggan after being treated at length on the track.
On her social media, she said she suffered a fractured humerus and torn anterior cruciate ligament, as well as a partial tear of the internal collateral ligament.
The 28-year-old Franco-Ontarian will have shoulder surgery in Austria on Wednesday before undergoing knee surgery at home next week.
On Friday, she finished third in a three-way tie in the downhill, her fourth World Cup medal, her first in the downhill. She won the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, on January 6.
Grenier suffered multiple leg and ankle fractures in 2019 after a fall during downhill training in Are, Sweden.
