Canadians James Crawford and Trevor Philp finished in the top 10 in the super-G event, in alpine skiing, Monday evening at the Beijing Olympics.

Crawford, who narrowly missed the podium in the downhill on Sunday night, skied hard at the National Alpine Ski Center in Yanqing. He was slightly offset in the middle of the course, which made him lose speed. The man nicknamed “Jack” arrived at the bottom of the track 0.85 seconds behind the leader, the Austrian Matthias Mayer, which earned him 6and rank.
“Too much,” suggested the 24-year-old Ontarian, meaning he tried too hard to do too much.
Trevor Philp, for whom this is the third Olympic Games, also offered a good run. He lost a stick at the start of the track, before recovering it without losing too much speed. He clocked 1:21.34. to conclude in 10and square.
The other two Canadians, Broderick Thompson and Brodie Seger, missed one of the first gates and did not finish their descent.
Mayer (1 min 19.94 s.) won his third Olympic gold medal in this event. Remember that he also won bronze in the downhill on Sunday evening.
American Ryan Cochran-Siegle (1 min 19.98 s) and Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (1 min 20.36 s) completed the podium.
