(Bormio) Canadian James Crawford finished second in the Men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup downhill held Wednesday in Bormio, Italy.
On the difficult 2.268 km Stelvio Pass track, Crawford stopped the clock at one minute 55.08 seconds, en route to the third podium of his career and his second this season.
On December 3 in Beaver Creek, United States, Crawford was on the third step of the podium, also in the downhill.
Crawford finished 40 hundredths of a second behind Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr and 28 hundredths of a second ahead of Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
Kriechmayr scored the 14e victory of his career in the World Cup, and his seventh in downhill.
Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt, overall leader, finished fourth in the event. He maintains a 261-point lead over Kilde at the top of the overall standings.
Crawford sits sixth with a total of 277 points.
Three other Canadians finished the race in the top-20, starting with Cameron Alexander (1:57.22), who finished in 12e position.
Brodie Seger (1; 57.78) ranked 16etied with American Erik Arvidsson, and Jeffrey Read (1:57.93) completed the race in 19e square.
The male skiers are due to compete in a super-G tomorrow, also in Bornio. This will be the last World Cup event of the calendar year.
