Austria’s Matthias Mayer won the gold medal after crossing the finish line in a time of 1:19.94. He thus successfully defended his Olympic title.

American Ryan Cochran-Siegle (1:19.98) won the silver medal while Norwegian Aamodt Aleksander Kilde (1:20.36) completed the podium.

Crawford was the first Canadian to hit the track and posted a time of 1:20.76, which allowed him to take sixth place out of 47 skiers.

Calgary’s Trevor Philp briefly lost his stick on his run but recovered to post a time of 1:21.34. He finished the race in 10and square.

Thirteen skiers were unable to complete their descent at the National Alpine Skiing Center in Yanqing.

Broderick Thompson of Whistler went off the track after his first jump. Vancouver’s Brodie Seger also failed to submit a time after missing a gate at the top of the track.

Crawford finished fourth in Monday’s men’s downhill, just seven hundredths of a second behind Mayer, who took the bronze medal, and 23 hundredths of a second behind Beat Feuz, the gold medal winner.

Feuz missed a super-G gate immediately before Crawford’s run.
