After offering us Colors on the Grave (Morue verte, 2019), Marie-Andrée Arsenault and Dominique Leroux suit us, with Alphaeus’ thread, to regain a life rocked by the surf. Inspired by the testimonies of women who grew up near lighthouses, the story invites us to meet Alphée, a young girl separated from her big sister who left to study on the continent, who uses her time to create links between the various discoveries of her daily. Punctuated by the tides, starry nights and seasons, this fragmentary and delicate story is filled with the poetic pen of the author: “On the island, there is neither twig nor stem. Only wind strong enough to discolor the shingles. Here, even painting dreams of freedom. » Added to these words of goldsmith are the illustrations of Dominique Leroux which, while maintaining a refined style, combine superposition, embroidery and painting, in particular, patching up the material into vast horizons where the eye can bathe at leisure.
