Alouettes: multi-player contracts

The general manager of the Montreal Alouettes, Danny Maciocia, granted contracts to 10 players of the team, including two Quebecers, Thursday.

The Alouettes have signed fullback David Dallaire of the Laval University Rouge et Or. He was the second-round pick (13th overall) in 2023. The team also signed defensive back Maxym Lavallée, an eighth-round pick last May.

The Montreal team also agreed with Simon Sandberg, who was the fifth overall pick in the CFL World Draft, and Rhys Byrns who was a second-round selection (14th overall).

The team also added national players Tysen-Otis Copeland, a defensive back who played with the Université de Montréal, Alec Poirier, a linebacker from Université Laval and American Kordell Rodgers, a defensive back from the Texas State University.

The team also awarded contracts to five of its picks in the last draft.

The Alouettes released Japanese running back Taku Lee and national offensive lineman Jakub Szott. National linebacker Chris Ackie also announced his retirement.

Start of training camp on Sunday

It is this Sunday that the Alouettes’ training camp will begin, in Trois-Rivières.

“We are all eager to get on the field with all that we have experienced during the offseason, underlined the general manager Danny Maciocia, Thursday, during the emission Quebec Morning on the waves of LCN. It will be good to talk about football and our players.

With a new owner, a new president, a new head coach and a new quarterback, things have changed for the Alouettes.

“It’s brand new,” continued Maciocia. We still have a good core in place, our Canadian content, the number of Quebecers we have already drafted and who are part of the 2023 Alouettes. But it will be a very competitive camp and we have to get answers concerning the positions where we lost some staff during the off-season.
