Loan applications are increasingly being refused by banks. Nearly half of the files are currently refused.

Cold shower for a couple, at their broker, on the morning of Wednesday August 17. Despite a solid file and a good contribution, their loan was refused. The usury rate is the maximum rate at which banks can lend money. It includes the interest rate, insurance and other management fees. Today, it is set at 2.57%. The couple exceeds it, and therefore cannot borrow. “My husband being a civil servant, me on a permanent contract, we did not ask ourselves this question”confides Odile Vernon, future buyer.

The situation has become more and more frequent in recent months. The wear rate is fixed each quarter, while the rates immovables rise faster. The number of applications refused soars, and reaches one in two for 30-35 year olds. “What we are asking for is either an exceptional measure on the part of the Banque de France, so as to increase the rate of wear and tear over the last month of the quarter, (…) or else to overhaul the method of calculation “, comments Jérôme Cusanno, president of the French Association of Bancassurance Intermediaries (AFIB). The attrition rate will be revised on October 1st.
