almost all of the Loire goes on alert, the use of water is restricted

The drought is accentuated in the Loire, despite recent stormy episodes. The prefecture therefore places the areas Monts du Lyonnais and Loire River Upstream on heightened alert. Most other areas go on alert due to a “sharp degradation of river flows” due to the current heat, and the weather forecast does not allow us to envisage enough rain to improve the situation. The prefect of the Loire therefore takes measures to restrict the use of water. Both individuals and professionals are concerned.

In the areas on alert (South Pilat, Gier, South Loire, Monts du Forez, Roannais, Rhins-Sornin), are forbidden :

  • Watering pleasure gardens
  • Lawn watering
  • Watering green spaces, public or private
  • The watering of golf courses except the greens
  • The use of drinking water for the operation of public fountains
  • Washing of vehicles outside professional high-pressure or water-recycling installations, with the exception of vehicles subject to a regulatory obligation (sanitary, food vehicle, etc.) or technical (concrete mixer, etc.)
  • Cleaning the exteriors of buildings (walls, roofs, floors, etc.)
  • Water filling and renewal of water in private swimming pools except for the first filling after construction
  • Watering of sidewalks and public or private roads except health imperative
  • Feeding water bodies outside water bodies authorized as production fish farms

Prohibitions from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • The watering of golf greens including departures
  • Watering sports grounds of all kinds
  • Watering vegetable gardens

Prohibitions from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • Withdrawals for irrigation, including those taken from canals and diversions

In the areas on heightened alert (Monts du Lyonnais and Upstream Loire River), are prohibited, in addition to the above :

  • Watering sports competition grounds more than once a week
  • Filling, upgrading, renewing the water of private pools for single-family use
  • Sampling from watercourses or groundwater to fill water bodies, including classified fish farms

Prohibition from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Irrigation, with the exception of localized irrigation and market gardening and nursery activities for which it is prohibited from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
