(Belgrade) World number one Novak Djokovic said on Wednesday he was close to his best form and will play the Dubai tournament, after suffering a thigh injury during the Australian Open which did not prevent him from win there in January.
The Serb did not seem to have diminished in any way during a training session on Wednesday at the tennis center that bears his name in Belgrade.
“The wound is healed, I am almost 100% [de mes moyens] “Djokovic told a few reporters. “I’m not there yet [aux 100 %], but things look good and encouraging. We have therefore decided with my team that I will play in Dubai” next week (February 27-March 4).
The player with 22 Grand Slam titles, interviewed after his training session, also mentioned the rumors that his muscular problem in Australia (Adelaide then Melbourne) had been invented.
“I don’t have the time, energy or inclination to deal with every story that comes out on the internet,” he said. I know what is right and what is true.”
At 35, Novak Djokovic started a 377 on Mondaye reigning week at the top of the ATP, joining Germany’s Steffi Graf in the legend.
The world No.1, on the other hand, should not be able to play the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments in the spring, the American authorities having extended until April the vaccination obligation for foreign visitors.
