Alleged Terrorist Plot in New York | Man Arrested in Montérégie Back in Court on December 6

(Montreal) A 20-year-old man arrested last week in Quebec for an alleged Islamic State terrorist plot to kill Jews in New York will appear in court again on December 6 in Montreal.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani national residing in Ontario, was arrested on September 4 in Ormstown, Montérégie, while crossing the border into neighboring New York State.

He is now charged in the United States with attempting to provide material support and resources to a terrorist organization, and U.S. authorities are seeking his extradition to stand trial.

He was not present at a hearing Friday in Quebec Superior Court, where lawyers said they were awaiting extradition papers and authorization from Canadian authorities before continuing the case, which will be heard again on Dec. 6.

U.S. authorities allege that Khan, also known as “Shahzeb Jadoon,” intended to use “automatic and semi-automatic weapons” in a mass shooting at a Brooklyn Jewish center around October 7, the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.

US authorities say he began planning his attack in November 2023, after the Hamas attack.

Earlier this week, federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller said Khan arrived in Canada in June 2023 on a student visa.
