Arrested last Thursday, now on the run: the teenager accused of the murder of Stevens Cantave, an influential gang member, has fled the youth centre where he was being held. The young Ontarian is actively being sought by the authorities.
The alleged murderer escaped Sunday from the youth centre near the town of Petersburg, Ontario.
“The Major Crimes Section of the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) is asking for the public’s help in locating Makail Gas Mohamed, aged 16, who has escaped from legal custody in Ontario,” the police force announced in a press release late Tuesday afternoon.
Makail Gas Mohamed is a 16-year-old black boy. He is approximately 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) tall and weighs approximately 70 kg (155 lb). At the time of his escape, he was wearing a light grey sweatshirt and sweatpants.
It is quite unusual for images of a minor suspect to be broadcast in the media. “He is considered potentially dangerous. A judge has exceptionally authorized the publication, until July 26, 2024 inclusive, of images that could help find him,” the SPVM said.
The teenager was already incarcerated in Kitchener, Ontario, at the time of his arrest last week. He had appeared by videoconference at the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec in connection with the murder of Stevens Cantave, alias No Chance. The 42-year-old man was shot dead last February in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. Considered a veteran among the blue allegiance street gangs, he was reportedly close to Gregory Wooley and Marckens Vilme, a prominent member of the Ruffriders, a blue allegiance street gang present in the West Island of Montreal.
