(Toronto) A former Toronto Argonauts strength and conditioning coach is suing the Canadian Football League (CFL) for wrongful dismissal and the team’s star quarterback, Chad Kelly, for alleged violations of the Code of Conduct. Ontario Human Rights.
In a statement of claim filed Wednesday in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the plaintiff claims she was constantly harassed by Kelly, first with unwanted romantic approaches, then escalating into incidents during which the quarter- rear used threatening language.
The plaintiff alleged that the Argonauts did nothing when informed of Kelly’s actions and that the team’s assistant general manager, John Murphy, said that she “opened a Pandora’s box that “didn’t need to be open.”
The plaintiff said she was informed on January 29 that her contract would not be renewed. The latter joined the Argonauts in 2018 and mentioned that her contract had been continually renewed in the past.
She is seeking $80,000 from Kelly and a total of $85,714 from the Argonauts. The Canadian Press does not publish the names of alleged victims of sexual harassment or assault without permission.
The allegations have not been tested in court. The Argonauts and CFL said they were aware of the lawsuit but would comment directly on the allegations. Kelly’s agent has not yet responded to a request for comment.
