“All the efforts we ask of the French are worthless if we do not constrain our multinationals”, recalls Alma Dufour, La France insoumise MP for Seine-Maritime, invited Wednesday December 13 on franceinfo. She reacted to the agreement reached in Dubai within the framework of COP28, “We are extremely disappointed, but we didn’t expect much”she laments, “this COP marks the failure of 10 years of negotiations on the climate. We know that the commitments of States do not allow a reduction in emissions, so we are heading straight into the wall”.

Alma Dufour cites France as an example: “The commitments it made on the international stage, today, it is not capable of keeping them! By 2030, it is physically impossible to halve our emissions.”

The main problem remains, according to the MP, the absence of questioning “of the neoliberal, productivist and growth economic model which underlies the majority of developed economies” and which leads in particular to “addition of interest” for multinationals, which can benefit from both renewable and fossil fuels.

“According to their announcements, at Total Énergies, by 2030, they will only invest 30% in renewable energies and all the rest in fossils.”

The elected official therefore calls for more constraints for “the multinationals of the French CAC 40″ Who “emit eleven times more than France”, “we must not wait for them to do it nicely, we must force them”. She concludes, “all the efforts we ask of the French are worthless if we don’t constrain our multinationals”.
