All packaging is now recyclable in Grand Avignon

Are you still hesitating in front of the yellow trash can? From now on, you no longer need to think, if you live in Greater Avignon since all packaging becomes recyclable. Sachets of salad, jars of fresh cream, trays of cooked meals, tubes of toothpaste or bottles of soap, bags of frozen products, the plastic films that surround water packs: all these packaging take the direction of the sorting bin. To this, we add the waste that already had to be sorted, such as paper, cardboard, canned food, plastic packaging such as bottles.

The weight of recycled packaging has increased significantly in ten years

SIDOMRA, a joint union that manages waste, specifies that nothing should be washed before throwing it away. The sorting center located in Vedène has been optimized and at the same time, the recycling sector has been modernised. Thus, in ten years, the quantity of sorted packaging has increased by 26% while the weight of household waste has dropped by 9%. 7,000 additional yellow bins will also be distributed in Greater Avignon by the end of the year.

On social networks, Internet users welcome this change. But one comment comes up often. More waste to sort means trash cans that overflow faster. More frequent pickups are therefore needed. The followers of zero waste remind them that recycling is better than throwing away and incinerating, but limiting our waste at the start remains the best solution.
