Victim of a controversy over her gender, the Algerian boxer “has decided to lead a new fight: that of justice, dignity and honour”, her lawyer announced on Saturday.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, filed a complaint in Paris on Friday for aggravated cyberbullying, after being the victim of a controversy over her gender, her lawyer Nabil Boudi announced in a press release on Saturday, August 10.
“Having just won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, boxer Imane Khelif has decided to lead a new fight: that of justice, dignity and honor”wrote the lawyer, indicating that he had “deposited (Friday) a complaint for aggravated cyberbullying to the Online Hate Control Unit (PNLH) of the Paris public prosecutor’s office”.

With Taiwanese Lin Yu-ting, Imane Khelif had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships after failing a gender test, according to the International Boxing Federation (IBA). But they were later allowed to compete in Paris by the IOC, which showed its support for the two boxers. “I am a strong woman with special powers. From the ring, I sent a message to those who were against me” she told the media on Friday, after holding back tears as she took to the podium. “I have been attacked and campaigned hard and this is the best answer I can give. The answer has always been in the ring.”
