Saturday August 27, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron was traveling in Algeria. He went to Oran, where he stopped in the Disco Maghreb store, a cult place that gives pride of place to raï music.

The Disco Maghreb store is eminently known as the cradle of raï music in Algeria. Composer DJ Snake pays homage to this place in one of its clips. The Franco-Algerian artist was inspired by the Radio Maghreb cassettes he listened to when he was a child. Cheb Mami, but also Khaled and others, wrote the golden pages of this place. Boualem Benhaoua remembers beautiful moments lived in this shop. “I have many memories with raï singers”remembers the owner of Disco Maghreb.

Boualem Benhaoua and his store attract many curious people who want to be photographed in this site steeped in history. Despite its reputation, this place has also been the scene of sad events such as the murder of several raï singers. Today, DJ Snake’s clip is a source of pride for all the inhabitants of Oran who welcome the tribute paid by the composer.
