In Seine-Saint-Denis, it is not easy to find your way among the left-wing candidates for the early legislative elections. In Montreuil and Bagnolet, two outgoing elected officials claim to be from the New Popular Front, starting with Alexis Corbière. Hugs, handshakes and laughter, in his stronghold, the outgoing MP is known to everyone. In conflict with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, he was sidelined by La France insoumise, so he is running alone, but supported by figures from the left.
“There is a two-in-one ballot in the Corbière vote”explains Alexis Corbière at the microphone of France Télévisions, “we vote for (…) a Popular Front which keeps the best of insubordination, but which refuses dirty methods”. Still unknown, Sabrina Ali Benali is the candidate officially nominated by LFI in this constituency, where the party won 35% in the European elections. The emergency doctor relies on the popularity of Jean-Luc Mélenchon to make herself known to residents. “Alexis is reasonable, he will fight for our ideas before fighting for his seat”assures the candidate.
