(Acapulco) Alex de Minaur defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in the final on Saturday and became the first player since 2012 to successfully defend his title at the Acapulco tournament.
Third seed, de Minaur is the fourth player to win two titles in a row at this tournament and the first since David Ferrer. It was an eighth title on the ATP circuit for the Australian.
Sixth seed, Ruud was trying to get an 11e title on the ATP circuit, but his first of the ATP 500 type.
De Minaur broke quickly to lead 3-1 in the first set and win it 6-4.
The two players exchanged breaks early in the second set and de Minaur broke Ruud’s serve in the seventh game to take the lead and win.
