Alberta’s turn to welcome a reduced capacity

The province of Alberta ruled on Tuesday: sports buildings can only be filled to 50% of their maximum capacity, due to recent outbreaks of COVID-19.

This means that the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers will have to work in front of half of their fans, when the authorities of the National Hockey League (NHL) allow the teams to resume their regular schedule.

The World Junior Hockey Championship will also be affected, as it will be held in the cities of Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta., Starting December 26. The 2021 edition of the tournament was held without a spectator in the stands, still in the same province.

In addition to the reduced capacity, eating and drinking will be prohibited in the arenas.

Thus, apart from Quebec, which has restricted its teams to playing behind closed doors, all the Canadian provinces have reduced their entry capacity to their sports facilities to 50%.
