Alberta NDP | Ex-Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi launches leadership race

Former Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi came out of political retirement Monday, announcing his candidacy for leadership of the Alberta NDP. Mr. Nenshi says he wants to oppose the United Conservative Party government, which he describes as “immoral”.

“This government is unlike anything I’ve seen before,” Mr. Nenshi said in an interview with The Canadian Press before the announcement.

“He’s not just incompetent. They are dangerous and immoral. »

Mr. Nenshi, 52, was elected mayor of Calgary in 2010 and won three terms before deciding to step down ahead of the 2021 municipal election.

He said it was time to come back and choose a side.

“We have to do better and so many Albertans from all corners of the province… have just said, ‘You know what? It’s time to throw in your hat. We need someone who can bring hope back to Alberta.”
