Danielle Smith will face in the next election a former premier of Alberta, the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Rachel Notley.

After taking over the leadership of the United Conservative Party following the resignation of Jason Kenney, Mme Smith has vowed to push back against Ottawa, starting with its controversial provincial “sovereignty” law.
