The day before, Conservative Caucus Chairman Nathan Neudorf announced that MPs had decided that Mr Kenney should remain in office until a new leader was chosen.
Kenney, who did not speak to reporters Thursday after the caucus meeting, said Friday it was important to stay focused on priorities in Alberta, including reducing health care wait times and growing the economy.
The resigning prime minister made the comments to journalists invited to take photos and film the ministers of his cabinet who gave him a standing ovation before the start of their meeting on Friday morning in Calgary.
Mr. Kenney explained that this access to the media was organized to demonstrate that his government remained focused on Alberta’s public priorities.
Like the day before, the Prime Minister did not answer questions from journalists on Friday morning. He has not done so, however, since he announced on Wednesday evening that he was leaving his post as leader of the United Conservative Party, after obtaining just over 51% support during a activists vote of confidence.
Party officials have so far provided no details or timetable for the upcoming leadership race. The United Conservative Party statutes do not prohibit Mr. Kenney from running to succeed himself.
