Several European crowned heads took part in the ceremony tribute to Prince Philip organized this Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Westminster Abbey, in London. Not far from Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family, Prince Albert of Monaco did not go unnoticed, even if he was quite alone… The sovereign made the trip to England without his wife, the princess Charlene, most certainly remained in the principality with their children Jacques and Gabriella (7 years old).
Although she returned to the Rock in early March, Princess Charlene remains in the shadows. After long months of convalescence spent in South Africa (her country of origin), then a stay in a specialized clinic in Switzerland which began last November, the 44-year-old ex-swimmer is slowly recovering from her ENT problems from Monaco. . Despite everything, optimistic, the palace announced its imminent return to royal activities: “The next few weeks should allow him to fully recover before he can gradually resume his official activities.”said a press release relayed on March 12.
It was therefore alone that Prince Albert went to London to honor the memory of Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth who died almost a year ago. After a funeral organized in April 2021 in Windsor in a select committee, because of the pandemic, nearly 1,800 people gathered in Westminster on Tuesday for a tribute in due form. Alongside the Monegasque sovereign, the British were able to find King Felipe of Spain and his wife Queen Letizia, King Philippe of Belgium and his wife Queen Mathilde, Willem-Alexander and Maxima of the Netherlands, Beatrix of the Netherlands Bas or even Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden (see slideshow).
Two other major absentees to deplore
The British royal family was (almost) complete: Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton with their children George and Charlotte, Prince Edward, his wife Countess Sophie of Wessex and their two children (Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount James), Princess Anne and her husband, accompanied by her children Peter and Zara, the maligned Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, who came as a couple…
As expected, only Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were conspicuous by their absence. The Sussexes ultimately did not make the trip from California and are not expected to do so until their safety is restored by Scotland Yard.
