Alain Rayes abandons his role as political lieutenant for Quebec

Conservative MP Alain Rayes has notified the party’s interim leader, Candice Bergen, that he is stepping down from his role as political lieutenant for Quebec as well as his duties in the shadow cabinet. MP Luc Berthold will take his place and act as deputy leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

“The next leadership race will be decisive for the Conservative Party of Canada. I want to play an important role there by supporting a candidate, ”announced Mr. Rayes, Sunday, in a press release shared on his Twitter.

The day before, Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre launched his candidacy for the leadership of the party by declaring that he is running as the next prime minister.
