Alain Juppé facing death, his poignant confidences

Back in bookstores with his memoirs, which he called Une histoire française and which will be published on September 14 by Tallandier editions, Alain Juppé gave an interview to Léa Salamé on France Inter this Monday, September 11, in which the former youngest Prime Minister in the history of the Fifth Republic returned to the question of death, which haunts him more and more. 78 years old, healthy, without serious illness at the momentthe politician does not remain less worried, and reveals to think more and more about the end of his life, and the sufferings that he could endure, and make his entourage endure.

”What is death? It’s a moment. What scares me is the physical decline, it’s the suffering, for myself and for those around me. As the term gets closer, it’s a question that haunts you more” explained the one who ran for the 2017 Republican primary, but who was beaten at the post by François Fillon.

Although a Catholic, Alain Juppé indicated that he now considered himself a ”agnostic Catholic”. Agnosticism is a philosophy that makes it possible to approach religious questions with hindsight. The former mayor of Bordeaux, now a member of the Constitutional Council, chose to ”not knowing” : ”Catholic because I belong to this family that is the Catholic Church, millennial, with an extraordinary message: the only value that matters is love (…) And agnostic, because I don’t know. I admire those who know, who have received grace, there are many.”

And I’m in between, I’m looking… I don’t have much time!” Born on August 15, 1945 in Mont-de-Marsan, Alain Juppé is the father of three children, born of two different unions: Laurent Juppé, born in 1967, television producer, and Marion Juppé, born in 1973, doctor, are both born of his union with Christine Leblond, Inspector General of National Education; Clara Juppé, born in 1995, student at HEC, was born of her second union with Isabelle Legrand-Bodin, journalist and novelist.
