Al Jazeera condemned the deaths of two of its journalists, killed on Wednesday July 31 during an Israeli strike on the Gaza Strip, denouncing in a statement a “cold-blooded murder”The Qatari channel said its correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic, Ismail al-Ghoul, and cameraman Rami al-Refee had been “targeted by Israeli occupation forces” during their coverage of the situation in the al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

The deaths of al-Ghoul and al-Refee highlight “the urgent need for immediate legal action against the occupying forces”according to the channel. Al Jazeera also assured that it would “take all possible legal action to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes” and expressed his “unwavering solidarity with all journalists in Gaza”. Hamas denounced a “heinous crime”arguing in a statement that Wednesday’s strike was aimed at “terrorize and silence” Palestinian journalists, who report on “the ongoing genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip for almost ten months”.
