After months of closure, the American borders reopen their doors to Europe and France on Monday, November 8. A moment awaited in particular by the airlines.

It is the big day for tourists and airlines. Monday, November 8 marks the reopening of the American borders. This is good news for tourists, but also for airlines. “For the national airline, the North Atlantic plus Canada, it represents 40% of the long-haul activity of the Air France KLM group”, explains Paul-Luc Monnier. However, air traffic has fallen dramatically since the Covid-19, dropping from 8.8 million to 1.7 million passengers between 2019 and 2020.

To win back its customers, the airlines are working on attractive prices: at Air France, return flights start at 324 euros, with an increase in flights every week. A rise to nearly 90% of conventional flights, against 50% during the epidemic. But in general, the normal resumption of air traffic will not be restored until 2024. Some countries, such as Japan and China, are still closed to tourists.
