The airlines say the first phase of the deal will focus on connecting Porter’s bases to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Halifax’s base to Air Transat’s hub in Montreal.

The code-share agreement will see each airline market, under its own code, the flights operated by its partner.

The agreement will allow travelers to combine flight segments on a single ticket and check baggage only once.

Porter Airlines chief executive Michael Deluce said the codeshare deal complements his airline’s own growth plans.

He said that providing seamless access to international markets served by Air Transat will be a great benefit for passengers.
