One out of two planes grounded. The French Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) asked airlines on Tuesday, September 13 to give up one flight out of two on Friday, September 16. “Significant cancellations and delays are to be expected”, alert the DGAC on Twitter. This announcement follows a strike notice from the snational union of air traffic controllers (SNCTA) which will affect many flights planned in France and overseas.

In its strike call, the SNCTA, the majority among air traffic controllers, urged the companies to “reduce their flight schedule by 50% for this day of Friday, September 16”. The organization has been calling for several months for an increase in salaries in the face of inflation as well as “guarantees on future recruitments”as she recalled in a press release published on September 6. “In 2029-2035, a third of the body is retiring: it is imperative to anticipate and plan recruitment”asks the SNCTA, which intends to weigh in on the 2023 finance bill, scheduled for consideration by Parliament in October.
