(Paris) Airlines Air France and Transavia France plan to resume their services to Beirut from France on Wednesday, a spokesperson for their parent company, Air France-KLM, told AFP on Tuesday.
The two companies announced on Monday that they were suspending their flights to Lebanon for two days amid fears of a military conflagration between Israel and the Shiite movement Hezbollah.
“At this stage, the resumption of flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Beirut is scheduled for July 31, 2024” for Air France, the spokesperson specified, and this decision “also applies to Transavia France” which connects Lebanon from Paris, but also Marseille, Lyon and Nice.
In addition, “commercial measures are in place, allowing customers with a reservation for flights to or from Beirut scheduled before August 4, 2024 to postpone or cancel their trip without charge,” according to the same source.
Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah exchanged fire on Tuesday, after a deadly strike on Saturday on the Golan Heights – 12 children and teenagers killed – which raised fears of a flare-up in the region on the fringes of the war in the Gaza Strip.
In addition to Air France and Transavia, several airlines have suspended their flights to Beirut, including those of the German group Lufthansa until August 5. The Jordanian airline Royal Jordanian and the Turkish carrier SunExpress have also announced the suspension of their services to Beirut until Tuesday inclusive.
