The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, issued a municipal decree on Friday which requires air-conditioned businesses to keep their doors closed.
She wishes _”_put an end to this aberrant practice in the current context of climate emergency and energy crisis”it is specified in a press release. The City of Paris followed the initiative after the cities of Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyons.
Starting the Monday July 25, businesses using an air conditioning system will no longer be allowed to keep their doors wide open while their air conditioning system is running. The decree does not apply to restaurants nor to establishments selling beverages and which have an outdoor terrace.
If merchants do not comply with the order, they risk a class 2 fine, the amount of which can reach 150 euros.
