Deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2024, with the last device expected to be received in the first quarter of 2027.

Fifteen of these aircraft will be leased from Air Lease Corporation and five others will be leased from AerCap. Air Canada will also purchase six aircraft through a purchase agreement with Airbus SAS, which provides purchase options to acquire fourteen additional aircraft between 2027 and 2030.

Financial details of the deals were not immediately available.

The A321XLRs will be able to carry 182 passengers, including 14 on fully reclining seats and 168 in economy class.

Air Canada said the new aircraft would have a range of approximately 8,700 kilometers and would be capable of non-stop flights anywhere in North America and, subject to Transport Canada transoceanic certification, be assigned to transatlantic routes.
