The financial aid granted to fishermen to cope with the rise in fuel prices, announced in February by Emmanuel Macron, was extended by decree on Wednesday June 7. And this until October 15, for the same amounts and ceilings, AFP learned from the State Secretariat for the Sea.

In this decree published in the Official Journal, the fishing companies which “are facing an increase in the prices of raw materials and in particular energy” in the context of the war in Ukraine, will be able to benefit from “cash flow assistance” until October 15, 2023. This interministerial decree, signed Monday by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, will come into force on Thursday, the day after its publication. Its terms of application will be specified shortly in a decree.

This fuel aid was initially put in place by the government of Jean Castex as part of the “resilience plan”, aimed at helping companies cope with the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine. Implemented on March 17, 2022, it has been extended several times since then, and its amount has been adjusted several times, taking into account other aid in force and the evolution of diesel prices. The cost of this measure is “about 2.5 million euros per month”, had specified, during the Agricultural Show, the Secretary of State for the Sea, Hervé Berville.
